How fast can the steam train go?
3 July 1938 Downhill grade. Official data indicates peak speed 202.6 km/h, mean speed (half-mile) 201.2 km/h. Speed documentation not fully reliable, actual speed was probably slightly lower, but will have reached the mark of 200.4 (124.52), Mallard suffered an overheated crankpin during the run, but was repaired and returned to traffic within 9 days.
