What is a synchronising gearbox?

What is a synchronising gearbox?
Easy: convert data from one size to another.

Example Input to gearbox is 10 bits wide, at a speed of 10 Mhz;output would be 1 bit wide at 100 Mhz.+++The question refers to gearboxes, not computers!!A synchronising, or "synchromesh" gearbox, is one fitted with amechanism that aligns the gear teeth when changing gear. Withoutit, on manual transmissions, you would need to perform a movecalled "double-declutching" to bring the gears somewhere into lineand speeds at each gear-change.
