Question

I wanted know if a company selling exclusive territory rights to distribute their products is supposed to be licensed or somehow registered in iL before doing so. I purchased one of these territories and would like to see if I have any legal recourse to sue them in order to get my investment back.

Answer

As a Franchise Attorney I can say the following. Regardless of what the agreement is called, you very likely signed a contract that requires an accompanying disclosure document and prior registration. That would fall under either franchise or business opportunity law. The most important thing for you to do now is Consult with a good franchise attorney to review the particulars and for specific advice in getting your investment back.
