Answer

Yes. A form called Rernunciation can be filed with the Surrogate whereby someone entitled to an inheritance can renounce it. The person who benefits must be similarly entitled to receive a share of the estate. So, if both parents are entitled, one can renounce the inheritance in favor of the other.
