Whose first orchestral piece was for four horns?
Richard Gerog Strauss composed Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche in 1894-95. The tone poem was first performed late in 1895 under Franz Wllner in Cologne.The score specifies four flutes and piccolo; four oboes and English horn; four clarinets, including bass clarinet and E-flat clarinet in an important role; four bassoons and contrabassoon; four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, and tuba; timpani and percussion; and strings.
